A Baptism I’ll Never Forget

By Michael

A special day of faith, celebration, and new beginnings shared with church family.

There are many special moments in life that we remember forever. For me, one of those moments was the day I was baptized.

I had attended church for several years, but for a long time I felt nervous about taking that next step in my faith. I knew what baptism meant, and I knew it was something I wanted to do, but I kept telling myself that I would do it later. Weeks turned into months, and months turned into years.

One Sunday, our pastor spoke about trusting God and taking steps of faith. The message stayed with me long after the service ended. As I drove home that afternoon, I felt God gently reminding me that I did not need to wait any longer.

A few weeks later, I signed up to be baptized.

As the day approached, I felt excited but also a little nervous.

Family members and friends planned to attend, and many people from the church told me they were praying for me. Their encouragement gave me confidence and reminded me that I was not walking this journey alone.

When baptism Sunday finally arrived, the church was filled with joy. Worship music filled the room, and people gathered to celebrate those who were publicly declaring their faith in Jesus Christ.

As I stepped into the baptismal water, I looked around and saw smiling faces everywhere. Some were people I had known for years, while others were newer friends from church. In that moment, I realized how blessed I was to be surrounded by a church family that cared about me.

The pastor asked me a few simple questions about my faith. Then he lowered me into the water and raised me up again.

It only lasted a few seconds, but it felt like a moment I would never forget.

When I came out of the water, the church applauded and celebrated. I could see my family smiling. I could hear people cheering. More than anything, I felt grateful.

Grateful for God’s love.

Grateful for His grace.

Grateful for the people who had encouraged me along the way.

That day was not the end of my journey. It was the beginning of a new chapter. Since then, I have continued to grow in my faith, learn more about God, and serve alongside others in our church community.

Whenever I think back to that Sunday, I remember how much joy filled the room. It was a celebration not only for me but for everyone who witnessed it.

Looking back now, I am thankful that I finally took that step of faith. My baptism reminded me that following Jesus is not about being perfect. It is about trusting Him, growing each day, and walking forward with confidence in His promises.

I will always remember that day, not because everything changed overnight, but because it was a public declaration of the faith that continues to shape my life.

“We too may live a new life.”

Romans 6:4
